Obey setOpaque() when selecting buffered image type. User must still
request alpha bits in the GLCapabilities. Not supported on all
back-end renderers; for example, Microsoft GDI renderer does not
implement alpha bits when rendering to DIB sections. Added examples of
use in JGears and JRefract demos.

Worked around memory leak in ATI's OpenGL drivers by adding system
property -Djogl.GLContext.nofree which users can specify on the
command line. There is no good general-purpose workaround for this bug
which works well on all hardware and in all kinds of applications.
Issues may remain if this workaround is used and if the GLCanvas is
removed and re-added to its parent container. Use at your own risk.
Also cleaned up Windows ChoosePixelFormat code path; made sure
PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR was completely filled out.

result in an error
The root cause of this error was the fact that
WindowsPbufferGLContext.destroyImpl() uses WGL extensions to clean up
resources associated with the pbuffer. Because these extensions are in
the public WGL interface, they are wrapped by the DebugGL. However, an
OpenGL context is not current at the time these routines are called,
and it is illegal to call glGetError() at those points. The DebugGL
pipeline was implicitly calling glGetError() after each of those
calls, leading to the failure.
This bug unmasked a couple of others. The code in the DebugGL needed a
recursion count to make sure that glGetError() didn't get called in an
infinite loop. Also, as a side effect of the fix for Issue 160,
calling getGL() on the GLJPanel outside of GLEventListener.init() was
causing a NullPointerException to be thrown. The GLJPanel has been
fixed to return null in this case, and the specification of
GLDrawable.getGL() has been improved. In order to make the behavior
between the GLCanvas and GLJPanel similar, the GL object is now reset
in the GLDrawable each time the underlying OpenGL context is
recreated. This allows end users to set up e.g. the DebugGL
unconditionally in their GLEventListener.init() method. The JOGL demos
have been changed to reflect this.
The test case in the bug report will be updated with code similar to
the originally submitted test case (i.e., the Animator is started
early) but which now works.

Fixed / worked around problem found by user mustang on the javagaming
forums where if a recursive makeCurrent failed, it would incorrectly
end up freeing the parent context. Not completely confident of this
bug fix, but definitely fixes the mentioned problem and doesn't appear
to break any of the demos.

Fixed Issue 61: Make debug variables load from system properties
Added a hardware acceleration path for GLJPanel implemented using the
GLPbuffer interfaces. If instantiation of the pbuffer fails, the
GLJPanel implementation attempts to catch the resulting exception and
fall back on the existing software rendering path.
The new code has been successfully tested on Windows. This checkin
attempts to make the needed changes to the pbuffer implementation on
other platforms, but the GLJPanel continues to use software rendering
until all platforms can be tested.
Additionally, references to static final DEBUG flags have been made
settable via system properties. "jogl.verbose" enables certain
printing statements. "jogl.debug" enables all debugging printing.
"jogl.debug.GLContext" enables the debug printing inside the GLContext
class. The system property names are chosen by convention and are not
enforced.

(ATI-specific)
The root cause of this bug was not the new DummyGL code, but severe
bugs in ATI's OpenGL drivers where it appears that if an OpenGL
context is ever made current on more than one thread during the
lifetime of an application, problems begin to occur such as the
SetPixelFormat call failing on the just the next newly-created HDC, or
all subsequent SetPixelFormat calls failing on all
subsequently-created HDCs. This was occurring because the
single-threaded ATI workaround's automatic detection mechanism was not
being enabled until the first time a context was made current, but by
then it was typically too late; the context was made current on the
end user's thread during e.g. Frame.show(), and if it was ever made
current on another thread (like the AWT event queue thread, which is
where all OpenGL operations are performed when the single-threaded
workaround is enabled) then the problems would begin.
The failure has only been seen on Windows so far; ATI's drivers on X11
seem to be better behaved. The workaround is to check for the presence
of ATI's drivers very early during JOGL's initialization, by looking
in the system directory for atioglxx.dll, and enabling the
single-threaded workaround if it was found. This workaround causes the
attached test case to work properly.
Also added some more debugging code to make diagnosing problems like
these easier in the future.

Incorporated the LWJGL team's port of the GLU quadric and projection
routines to be able to eliminate calls to the native GLU library for
these cases, which was problematic on certain Linux distributions.
Still need to port at least some of the mipmap routines and the NURBS
tesselator.

The central try/finally cause in GLException.invokeGL() called
GLContext.free() after catching and rethrowing the end user's
exception from the GLEventListenerdisplay() routine, which caused the
end user's exception to be overwritten with the internal GLException.
Fixed this by initializing the cause of the internal exception, and
also continuing to propagate out the end user's exception.

users in JOGL 1.1 betas where the code path for
wglChoosePixelFormatARB (supporting full-scene antialiasing) was
failing on older cards. The old drivers expect an OpenGL context to be
current while the wglChoosePixelFormatARB and associated calls are
being made, even though the documentation explicitly states that this
is not necessary. GKW's fix creates a native window synchronously
(independent of the AWT) and associates an OpenGL context with it
which is used to choose pixel formats for other windows on the same
GraphicsDevice. Upon VM shutdown, a native message pump is started
which causes proper disposal of the native window and its OpenGL
contexts.
There is currently no bug ID associated with this fix, although it may
be a component of completely addressing several open bugs.
Also includes a bug fix from GKW and kbr for:
Issue 98: Just 1st frame rendering on ATI Radeon
This was a race condition between JOGL's automatic discovery that the
ATI_WORKAROUND was needed and the creation of the first GLCanvas and
associated Animator. The need for disabling the setRenderingThread
optimization was computed too late, incorrectly locking out other
threads (in particular, the AWT event queue thread) from performing
rendering of the component.

Issue 59: GLContext Leak
Issue 67: Java/Jogl app hangs some systems, not others, during reshape.
Issue 69: Error on window resize
Issue 89: Losing Backbuffer when Resizing/Moving a window
The primary change is to support handing off of the display()
implementation to the AWT event queue thread via a new class called
SingleThreadedWorkaround in the impl package. This was done to cause
the AWT's reshape code to execute on the same thread as all other
OpenGL rendering without changing the threading model (e.g., Animator
and the ability to manually call display()) visible to the end user.
This set of changes appears to work around the problems seen on ATI
cards with random corruption when resizing animating windows due to
multithreading bugs in the drivers. More testing by a larger community
will confirm this fix. Currently the workaround is enabled by default
on ATI cards.
A secondary but related change is to properly destroy the OpenGL
context when a heavyweight component is removed from its container.
In order to implement the above workaround, it was necessary to
override addNotify and removeNotify to properly track whether
GLCanvases were realized; at that point it was a fairly small step to
properly delete and recreate OpenGL contexts. The previous heuristics
which attempted to determine when a heavyweight had been realized have
been removed. A new demo, TestContextDestruction, exercises the new
functionality. It does still appear to exhibit resource leaks,
however; removing and re-adding the GLCanvas from its parent multiple
times causes the system to eventually slow down significantly. More
work is needed in this area. However, the demo does now execute as
opposed to throwing an exception which was the previous behavior.
The current code has been tested on Windows on NVidia hardware with
all existing demos with the workaround both enabled and disabled, and
on ATI hardware with the existing compatible demos with the workaround
enabled. The new abstract method in GLContext, destroyImpl(), has been
implemented but not yet tested on X11 and Mac OS X.

display() to fail
Fixed Issue 80: redraw after reshape, swapBuffer() gives Exception
Restructured and simplified context handling and optimization in
GLContext.invokeGL(). Fixes issue 80 (verified); believe it will also
fix issue 78 (unable to verify; no test case). Retested with all
demos, some of which rely on the proper functioning of this code.

knowledge of the OpenGL contexts it has made current and allows a
GLDrawable to make its context current recursively as well as allowing
a GLEventListener to call another GLDrawable's display() method from
within its display(). This mechanism can be used fairly easily to
expose swapBuffers in the public API, as has been requested. Updated
the demos which had to explicitly call display() on more than one
drawable to use the Animator class and to call GLDrawable.display()
from within their GLEventListeners' display() methods. Updated
documentation. Fixed bugs in gleem's CameraParameters class.

Biesiadowski. Modified their original build.xml to understand
dependencies between build phases (to avoid full rebuilds each time)
and to invoke the C compiler without requiring an external Makefile.
At this point the old Makefile/Makefile2 pair is obsolete and will be
deleted shortly, as soon as the Ant build has been tested on Linux and
Mac OS X. Additionally, Cygwin is no longer needed for the build; the
documentation will be updated to reflect this. Refactored some of the
stub_includes files to be common between platforms, yielding a build
process cleanup. Fixed bugs in Javadocs.

ProceduralTexturePhysics demos are now working on Linux with the
appropriate hardware. Moved core GLX routines out of the public GLX
interface; this allowed XVisualInfo (and the new GLXFBConfig) to be
removed from the public API. Added support to GlueGen for returning
arrays of pointers as arrays of StructAccessors in Java and for
choosing the typedef name for a pointer-to-struct if the struct itself
does not have a typedef name. Added support to GLEmitter to emit
ProcAddressTables under arbitrary names and to support arbitrary
mechanisms for fetching those tables. Made GLU (on all platforms) and
GLX (on X11) be dynamically linked. Refactored ProcAddressTable
filling to be mostly shared code. Tested changes on Linux, Mac OS X
and Windows.
